McGill astrophysics PhD discovery a Québec Science top 10
Jan 2014:
Yashar Hezaveh's discovery that the most vigorous bursts of star birth in
the cosmos took place much earlier than previously thought is one of
Québec Science top 10
discoveries of 2013.
Yashar (then a PhD candidate under the supervision of
Gil
Holder) used the ALMA
telescope to further study several distant and enigmatic starburst galaxies
that had been previously identified by the
South Pole Telescope collaboration,
which includes other McGill members Gil Holder, Matt
Dobbs, Amy Bender and
Tijmen de Haan. These results can be found
in a series of papers including one in
Nature
(arXiv:1303.2723 and two in
the Astrophysical Journal
(arXiv:1303.2726 and
arXiv:1303.2722).
