Please note that the proposed tuition hike by the government of Québec DOES NOT apply to graduate students.Word of WelcomeThe McGill Physics Department has a long tradition of frontier research dating from the historic experiments done here by Rutherford, almost a century ago. One hallmark of the Department is a diversification into many areas: Students pursuing graduate studies here have a wide spectrum of research activities from which to choose. The level of activity is high as well: Often there will be four or five seminars a week in various specialties. Graduate students find themselves in a congenial yet challenging environment. These pages aim to familiarize the prospective graduate student with the many facets of the department. Short descriptions of research activities - organized both by group and by individual faculty member - are provided, as well as details on the graduate applications, living, fees, and course work. The Department is based in the Rutherford Physics Building, a modern building where most of our on-site research is performed. It is situated on the scenic and pleasant McGill campus in the heart of downtown Montréal, a lively city with many attractions. Current information on the department's staff, research activities, teaching, seminars and colloquia can be found elsewhere in these pages. I sincerely hope you will consider the McGill Physics Department for your graduate studies.
