Science results and perspectives in VHE gamma-ray astronomy:
an overview

Armen Atoyan

Yerevan Physics Institute

Studies of Very High Energy (conventionally, E >= 100 GeV) gamma-rays currently form a young and actively growing branch of contemporary Astronomy, with established (although still few) sources of both galactic and extragalactic origin. A brief overview of this field, including the methods of observations, current scientific results, and the perspectives for future studies, as understanding the origin of cosmic rays or exploring the processes in relativistic jets and gamma-ray bursts, will be presented.
