Searching For Extra Dimensions

C.S. Lam

McGill

An important signature for extra spatial dimensions beyond our three is the presence of Kaluza-Klein excited states. Its absence places the size of any extra dimension to be less than ~ 10-17 m, under ordinary circumstances. However, this conclusion is no longer valid in the braneworld scenario, in which only gravity and sterile neutrinos can be used to detect the extra dimensions. Searches for extra dimensions using gravity and neutrino oscillations have so far brought us negative results, but who knows what the future will bring.
