Nuclear Anapole Moment: Theory and Discovery

Yulik Khriplovich

Budker Institute, Novosibirsk

An anapole moment (AM) is an electromagnetic characteristic special for a system without definite parity. The AM of 133Cs nucleus has been recently experimentally discovered and the AM of a heavy nucleus can be reliably calculated. Therefore, its experimental measurement, in line with general physical interest, brings valuable information on parity violation in nuclei.
