Ben Vollmayr-Lee Bucknell University Electrolyte criticality demonstrates a striking ambivalence towards universality class, behaving in some cases Ising-like and in others mean-field-like. A scenario that could explain this dilemma naturally from a crossover perspective is introduced, tested, and shot down. Along the way the generalized Debye-Hueckel theory for electrolyte correlations is developed, and is shown to have uses extending beyond scenario killing. Finally, a critique is given of our present understanding and reasonable future ambitions.
