Towards an Alternative to Inflationary Cosmology

Robert Brandenberger

McGill

I will discuss how an almost scale-invariant spectrum of adiabatic cosmological fluctuations emerges from string gas cosmology, without the need for a period of inflation. This mechanism requires a sufficiently large primordial universe. I will describe a scenario which might provide the required initial conditions, thus providing a non-inflationary solution to the entropy problem of standard cosmology.
