The ATLAS experiment: construction and supervision

Helfried J. Burckhart

CERN

ATLAS is a general purpose detector to analyze proton-proton collision at the LHC accelerator, presently being built at CERN and planned to start operation in 2007. The concept and the construction of the detector will be discussed, including a visual tour around the construction site. In a second part the Detector Control System will be discussed, with emphasis on the challenges arising from the size and complexity of the experiment and the environment it has to operate in.
