Parton distribution functions in soft-collinear effective theory

I will explain how to define parton distribution functions in terms of the matrix elements of the gauge invariant operators in deep inelastic scattering. With a brief introduction of the soft-collinear effective theory (SCET), I will show how factorization can be proved in the framework of SCET and discuss the physical features of the parton distribution functions and their renormalization group behavior.
