KNO scaling in pp / pA at LHC: theoretical motivation and why it matters for AA

Adrian Dumitru

Baruch College

Multiplicity fluctuations in high-energy pp collisions exhibit KNO scaling. Monte-Carlo simulations of pA collisions at LHC energies predict that Glauber fluctuations do not strongly modify the scaling. KNO fluctuations are shown to be important also for higher eccentricities of the initial state of heavy-ion collisions. I shall also present novel theoretical arguments for KNO scaling in the saturation regime at small x (high energy).
