Dirac Branes for Dirichlet Branes

Andrew Frey

University of Winnipeg

A common view of the Dirac string is as an unphysical singularity of a magnetic monopole's vector potential, but it actually plays an important physical role. We will explore physical consequences of the Dirac branes of high-dimension (ie, magnetically charged) D-branes, with an eye on applications in string compactification. Along the way, we will introduce modifications to Dirac's formalism that are necessary for string theory on compact manifolds.
