Topological Superconductor - Luttinger liquid Junctions

Ian Affleck

UBC

A spin-orbit coupled quantum wire, proximate to a superconductor, has a topological phase with Majorana modes localized at each edge of the superconductor. When the normal part of the wire has 2 channels coupled to the Majorana mode, and interaction effects are included, an unusual type of frustration occurs with a resulting quantum critical point. I will discuss how this might be probed experimentally to provide evidence for the topological phase.
