The Majorana-Hubbard mode

Ian Affleck

UBC

It is expected that when a thin layer of superconductor is placed on top of a topological insulator and a perpendicular magnetic field is applied to form a vortex lattice, a Majorana zero mode forms in each vortex core. Tunneling of Majorana modes between nearby vortices and interactions between the Majorana modes leads to a Majorana version of the 2-dimensional Hubbard model with a rich phase diagram which we have explored.
