Signatures of the chiral anomaly in phonon dynamics

Ion Garate

Université de Sherbrooke

Chiral anomaly has been a central topic in particle physics for decades. In condensed matter, it is thought to occur in the recently discovered Weyl semimetals (WSM). Although the detection of the chiral anomaly in WSM is a priority, the experimental evidence based on transport measurements is inconclusive. In this talk, I will show that chiral anomaly can have an interesting impact in phonons. I will predict an anomaly-induced resonance of the effective phonon charge in the presence of a magnetic field, and will discuss its implications in phonon spectroscopy.
