Self-healing UV curable coatings for wood finishing system

Chloé Paquet

Université de Montréal

In the wood flooring, surface mechanical properties are very important. In particular, the resistance to scratches and abrasion, which ensure to maintain the appearance over the time. These surface properties are provided by the finishing system applied on the wood. A new approach is to give to the finishing system: the self-healing property. To do this, two technologies are considered. The first one is the addition in the polymer matrix of capsules containing a self-healing agent (extrinsic approach). The second one is the development of formulations (intrinsic approach) including acrylates compounds containing reversible bonds (hydrogen bonds, ionic bonds, tangles, Diels-Alder mechanism).
