Physics PhD Prelim Exam

The Preliminary Exam is an important milestone in the Physics PhD. The goal of the exam is to ensure that the student is ready to pursue their PhD research. This includes having the relevant background knowledge, being able to describe the context of their research within the wider research field, and the goals and methodology of their research project. The exam comprises a written component, followed by an oral exam. The instructions below describe the steps that should be followed, including how to set up the exam committee, the timeline for the exam, and the requirements for the written and oral components.
